History

History quote.jpg

Through studying history, pupils develop an awareness of the past, using common words and phrases relating to the passing of time. Pupils learn about significant figures in history as well as historical periods of time. We teach a wide range of technical vocabulary to help pupils and this often links well with the English units of work, and other curriculum areas. Pupils are encouraged to ask and answer questions, choosing and using parts of stories and other sources to show that they know and understand key features of events.

We subscribe to the Lancashire School Museum loan service so that pupils can handle artefacts in school and develop historical enquiry. Where possible, we take the pupils to museums or on trips to have real life experiences of the historical aspect they are studying.  We also encourage visitors to come into school to enhance lessons and make learning more meaningful and relevant.
