Headteacher's Welcome

WELCOME TO ST MARY'S R.C. PRIMARY SCHOOL AND NURSERY

Welcome to St Mary's

Welcome to our St Mary’s website. We hope you enjoy finding out about our school and all the exciting and engaging learning that takes place here.

St Mary’s RC Primary School and Nursery, a voluntary academy, is situated in the town of Bacup, Lancashire. We are very lucky that our school is surrounded by lots of lovely views of the countryside and we have spacious grounds on which to learn, play, investigate and explore.

I am very proud to be Headteacher here at St Mary’s as we have a very caring and nurturing team of staff who are dedicated and committed to providing a high quality of education and support for all our pupils.

We have a nursery, which accepts children when they turn three years old, and then separate classes from Reception to Year 6. Our pupils are kind, helpful, welcoming and thoughtful and there is a strong sense of community between school, home and our parish. Father Chris, our parish priest, comes to visit regularly and helps our pupils to strengthen their understanding of the Catholic faith. St Mary’s is part of the Romero Catholic Academy Trust, a supportive team of schools who work together striving to provide outstanding educational opportunities for all pupils.

St Mary’s is an inclusive school, which aims to develop each pupil to the best of their ability socially, spiritually, emotionally and academically. We have a fantastic pastoral team consisting of our Assistant Head/SENCO, PSHE leader, Family Support Worker, nurture teachers and Thrive practitioners. All staff members work hard to help pupils to be ready and excited about their learning through developing social skills and encouraging a positive growth mindset.

We aim to ensure that our curriculum is personalised for our pupils, making their learning relevant and engaging for them. Throughout the year, children have enrichment opportunities to go on school trips; welcome visitors to school; sports coaching including swimming for all KS2 pupils, and learn a musical instrument.

All pupils are currently offered a Breakfast Bagel when they enter school in the morning as part of our National School Breakfast Programme participation. We also offer a Breakfast Club from 8.00am and an After School Club (Busy Kids) which runs from 3.20 until 5.15pm.

Welcome to our school.
