Welcome to Year 2
My name is Miss Kay and I will be teaching year 2 this year.
Year 2 is an important year as we do a lot of preparing for our Secret Agent Tasks (SATs) To become a secret agent we will need to complete some very important training – we need to be able to show skills in:
Maths – Using numbers in lots of different ways (good for breaking codes)
Maths – Use measure, shape and directions (excellent for fieldwork and investigating)
Reading – Be able to search for clues in texts (great for finding out what a secret message says)
We even have our very own special Lanyards which hold our identity badge. These have our fingerprint marks on but shhhhhhh, it’s all a secret!
Over the year we will be learning about a variety of topics such as The Great Fire of London, Knights and Dragons, Explorers and Beach Detectives. This term we will be looking at Twisted Tales where we will be retelling our own versions of Cinderella.
In our class we will be doing lots of learning about R.E. We have a prayer table which has a special book where we can write our own prayers and use them at the end of each day.
A few reminders:
- Reading books are changed each Wednesday and spellings and homework will also be given on this day.
- Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school each week with all items of clothing clearly labelled.
- You can support your child at home by working on their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Have you tried Times Table Rockstars? Please also remember to encourage your child to read every day and sign their reading record; if you do then your child will receive prizes and housepoints!
